Justice for Jalin Seabron

National Letter of Support

A National Call for Justice: In Memory and Honor of Jalin Seabron

To the Conscience of This Nation,

On the night of February 8th, 2025, the world lost more than a son, a brother, a partner, and a soon-to-be father. We lost Jalin Seabron, a 23-year-old young man who walked in the fullness of life, love, and responsibility. Jalin was not just celebrating a birthday that night at the Main Event Center in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, he was sharing the promise of a future: the joy of impending fatherhood, the warmth of family, the presence of friends.

Jalin's life was violently taken, ripped from his loved ones, by Douglas County Deputy Nicholas Moore, who fired nine shots with an AR-15, seven of which struck Jalin in the back. It took only seven seconds for Deputy Moore to render judgment, to deliver a fatal sentence without due process, without warning, without the decency of a human pause. And yet, District Attorney George Braucler has called this horror "justified".

This is not justice.

Earlier that evening, a violent altercation broke out in the women's restroom, where two of Jalin's family members were brutally attacked and robbed. One family member, in defense, allegedly shot one of the attackers. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office was called to respond.

Jalin went into protector mode. He ushered his pregnant girlfriend and family to the car, ensuring they were safe. As he exited the venue, one of the bathroom assailants followed him outside, brandishing a weapon. This individual has since been charged by Douglas County with one count of menacing a weapon.

Jalin, a legal gun owner, drew his firearm in self-defense. Demonstrating clear responsibility and restraint, he backed away and issued a verbal warning to de-escalate the situation: "I warned you, back up." He never fired his weapon.

Deputy Nicholas Moore, previously involved in a 2022 officer-involved shooting, was the first to arrive. He approached silently, without sirens or warning, and never identified himself as law enforcement. Instead of assessing the scene, he ran directly toward Jalin with an AR-15.

Within seven seconds of arrival, Deputy Moore fired nine shots, seven of which struck Jalin. In just three seconds, Moore issued three rapid-fire commands: "Hey! Drop the gun. Drop the gun, now. Drop it." On the third command, he simultaneously opened fire.

Jalin was given no time to process what was happening, no chance to live. He didn't even know an officer was behind him.

This is not public safety.

Sheriff Darren Weekly, before any facts were confirmed, declared that Jalin had an illegal weapon. That was a lie. The weapon was legal. The damage, however, is done, and it echoes. It stains Jalin's name. It manipulates public memory.

This is not truth.

What happened to Jalin Seabron is a tragedy, but even more, it is a reflection of the deep cracks in the foundation of justice in this nation. We have watched this pattern for generations: Black life devalued, Black protection criminalized, Black innocence doubted, and Black grief ignored.

But we will not be silent.
